2014 BATTLE ROYALE SUGGESTIONS

From Twitter and the confessional:
- FLASHLIGHTS, book/box of matches
- More zones+buildings blowing up (and forbidden zone situation threads [supplies are left in the middle of forbidden zones, etc.])
- Activity check starts at 6,000, inactives blown up at 7,000
- More frequent situation threads (two a day?), continuity in threads (barn thread --> burning barn thread)
- Collar explosions should all be the same size (like in the movie? bigger explosions?)
- Deadcounts more organized+include everyone killed in the last 24 hours
- Villain/Boss RPed more seriously
- No children+animals

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT HERE WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS YOU HAVE, I'd love to hear them, seriously! ouo

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
- Kids/Animals blow up by 9000 comments if they're not already dead
- Anons should have at least three or four links for the activity check, and put themselves in a situation thread where they can be killed at least once

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
That first one seems unfair. :| Why shouldn't they be allowed to win?

I liked it too when players made their own threads.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Stricter activity checks. Characters should only qualify as active if they've rped with three different characters. Threads should only count as active if they continue for at least six tag turns and if they have a thread with in the first few days of the BR beginning.

The Villain should be more involved, it would be cool if the Boss secretly had a participant chosen in random to do their bidding/evil for them or something.

Heaven/Hell threads would be entertaining too.

And just a suggestion for the muns but: Deaths should be decided randomly with an online coin toss only to give more surprising twists. It felt like threads were really predictable.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
-1 to the last bit. I don't think all battles should be decided randomly because let's face it, a human character with a gun is going to win against a cat, and someone completely healthy shouldn't lose against someone who can hardly move.

However, I would like to see a lot less planning going on behind the scenes. If two characters run into each other and fight, the victor should be determined by how the fight plays out, not decided ahead of time. I think it's really weird to plan it out when they entered knowing their character was probably going to die eventually.

This is more of a suggestion for the RPers themselves than for the BR though.

-1 to the last one

"It felt like threads were really predictable."

that's because they were planned for the sake of continuity, in most cases.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
+1 to everything but the last suggestion.

I felt the activity check this round didn't do its job in making sure it was "fair" for all participants. 2 short threads by 8000 comments shouldn't count as active. I think tighter regulations for ALL participants there are necessary.

I disagree about the number of comments per thread to count though. Some RPers do short quick tags without much in each and some do long, drawn out tags with lots happening. I think that should be based on common sense of the person doing the check, ie 4-5 tag turns may be acceptable if a lot happened in those 4-5 tags and it wasn't just meeting with someone, giving regards and going separate ways.

I really like the idea of a participant being behind the scenes as well, that could be interesting.

maybe the BR could have it's own comm/post on [personal profile] memeroyale and just end when the meme itself maxes? i.e. meme maxes at 10000 comments, BR RP continues in its own post as muns finish up threads and a winner (or not) is determined?

that'd give more space for RP + finishing threads and normal RP + commentary + etc. could continue on the meme without spam being an issue.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
-1 Gotta disagree, personally, because I would miss seeing all the RP on the meme. And it would be harder for random meme anons to get involved, which I think would be a loss.

The BR would last forever and there wouldn't be the same rush to kill everyone off. Keep in mind the meme probably won't be nearly as active by this time next year too. I'd rather not turn the BR into a snorefest by taking it off meme.

Also the wank is part of the fun.

2P!america made me really angry/disappointed/offended for a lot of reasons. Bringing a troll that told a new rper to "Fuck off" and spammed the meme bitterly as a butthurt troll was a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible idea.

More common sense next time. We really didn't need the BR to be really forced, "ironic funneh XD". It would be nice if the Boss was something the participants actually feared and hated, who played a real, threatening part of the event and made their presence known. I really liked the previous villain better, the eccentric woman with the smiley faces.

Gordon was a good idea with really poor execution too. I just wasn't feeling it.

The Br_Undertaker was the highlight of the event. He fits in perfectly and was really entertaining and a nice touch to the event.

I didn't know I told a new rper that? The point of 2p was to just be incredibly annoying and full of himself.

But yeah, sorry about offending anybody. Like I said, there wasn't much time to plan since I was in LA /n\

As for BB, maybe we can do something similar. Idk, planning needs to happen honestly. Thankfully we have a full year.

- FLASHLIGHTS, book/box of matches
I think flashlights would be a good idea, maybe. Matches not so much since I think it'd be taken advantage of and a lot of things would end up burning too easily. Make-shift fires are possible, so giving away matches would make things too easy. I personally would only consider matches if they were used as a weapon...

- More zones+buildings blowing up (and forbidden zone situation threads [supplies are left in the middle of forbidden zones, etc.])
I like this. I actually added more buildings to the map but it looked like it wasn't really enough? So much empty space... Next year we can consider this, and also add situational threads based on the forbidden zones as well.

Activity check starts at 6,000, inactives blown up at 7,000
I sort of agree a bit since I feel like we /just/ did an activity check and the meme's already near maxing.

More frequent situation threads (two a day?), continuity in threads (barn thread --> burning barn thread)
I thought it was already 2 a day? But I like the continuity idea.

Deadcounts more organized+include everyone killed in the last 24 hours
The problem is that it's hard to keep up if we keep adding killed people into the deadcount graphic, since it's made a few hours before the announcement goes up. The person who posts the deadcounts has to stay past midnight to post them, so it'd be really inconvenient.

Villain/Boss RPed more seriously
I agree.

No children+animals
I disagree. I feel like BR should be open to any rper.

I think having a way to make nations forget that they can come back would be a good way to intensify the action.

A lot of nations/personifications are accepting of the fact that they'll come back when they die. It might be fun to change that and see how differently they'll react if they think they'll die permanently~

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 03:23 am (UTC)(link)

Idk

I kind of liked how some characters (Turkey) were notable of the fact that, well, if he was killing human or the humans died, they weren't coming back... so it made it kind of more... in character? then if suddenly they were thinking they really died

but

IDK

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
That would make it too... non-Hetalia. And also I think it would end up more like heaps of superfluous shallow/transparent angst than 'intensified action'.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I can only see that happening with micronations and humans.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
More serious bosses, perhaps leave the bodies out for others to find + loot even days after

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like there was way too much pre-planning on part of the contestants this year. I guess it's not something you can really police but sometimes it was just kinda "oh." to see someone who should have died in one thread make it out because the mun wanted to do _____ instead. IF that makes sense.

If you're referring to Turkey-mun that was my idea.

I can't speak for everyone but idk, without pre-planning it feels too much like godmodding.

- FLASHLIGHTS, book/box of matches

I'd say flashlights are A+, because matches would be taken advantage of.

- More zones+buildings blowing up (and forbidden zone situation threads [supplies are left in the middle of forbidden zones, etc.])

I think more forbidden zones would have been nice.

- Activity check starts at 6,000, inactives blown up at 7,000
Sounds ok.

- More frequent situation threads (two a day?), continuity in threads (barn thread --> burning barn thread)

If it's one for live hour and one for dead hour, then yeah.

- Collar explosions should all be the same size (like in the movie? bigger explosions?)
Hahaha oh jayzus. I'd say yeah.

- Deadcounts more organized+include everyone killed in the last 24 hours
Yes, most definitely. It would make it easier to react.

- Villain/Boss RPed more seriously
I played in the last BR (Holy Rome and anon #40) and gotta say, I liked the girl that was in charge at the time. I'd say one that is serious, but also amusing, so to say?

- No children+animals

-1. Leave it as it is.

Other: I really enjoyed the random Starbucks and had a crack-up when I saw it on the map. It would be fun to see random places like that.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Probably a bit difficult due to how short the time the BR takes... But what about random targets with rewards?

Maybe a random pick that one of the contestants is the "Target of the day" and whoever takes him/her/it out would get a reward or a privilege. So if two characters both hate/want to kill that person, that would make way for more alliances/betrayal plots to happen.

Or if someone is is need of medical aid/weapons, they could ask for that reward? And they could be forced to kill somebody if they desperately need medicine, for example.

And of course, it'll be difficult for the Target too. Because while others might try to kill for the prize, others might also PROTECT the target. For example, if it's Sealand, Sweden and Finland would protect him instead of killing him. And then any others who want the reward would need to get past them first?

Yeah, I know it's kind of complicated... But it could be another plot if people are running out of ideas or ways for kill or be killed.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-24 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I like this idea! +1
